We May Know Who’s in the Running to Direct ‘Captain Marvel’

Even though the Captain Marvel solo movie isn’t set to hit theaters until 2019, a rumor has popped up that Marvel Studios might already have a director in mind. Of course, it cannot be stressed enough that this is just a rumor at this point. Marvel hasn’t said anything.

Screen Geek.net recently pointed out that indie filmmaker Emily Carmichael posted a selfie on Instagram with the caption, “on my way to a Disney meeting.” That caption was later edited to just read, “I look a way.” It should be noted that Screen Geek.net does not have a screenshot showing the original Instagram post’s caption.

This rumor came after TheWrap’s Jeff Sneider mentioned in his Meet The Movie Press series that the director of Captain Marvel will share the same name as the main star. It’s been rumored Emily Blunt is being considered for the part, and she obviously has the same name as Carmichael. Although, how is Blunt supposed to have time for this when she’s also starring in Mary Poppins? In any event, here’s what Sneider said (via ComicBookMovie.com):

“There was a rumor about an actress being up for it; an already existing rumor, that’s not new. I’ve definitely heard there’s some truth to that rumor, and that there’s a director with the same first name who has also been eyed. I don’t think that [an announcement] is too far off. If they can make it to Comic Con, they will.”

Carmichael has yet to direct a feature film, but she’s made several shorts that have screened at Sundance, SXSW and other festivals. She is also behind the Penny Arcade animated series.

One thing we do know about Captain Marvel is that she’s expected to make her film debut in Avengers: Infinity War.

I look a way
