Travis Knight’s Bumblebee premiered across the United States a few days ago on December 21. Thus far, the prequel to the box-office franchise, Transformers, has been doing relatively well with both audiences and critics.

The movie currently holds an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 66 out of 100 on Metacritic. The ratings on both review aggregator website are the highest of any Transformers movie to date. It doesn’t hurt that the film is also doing well in the box-office. While the competition has been tough, with Aquaman and Mary Poppins premiering around the same time, it hasn’t stopped Bumblebee from earning more than $52 million on its opening day.

With the early success of Bumblebee, fans of the franchise are already talking sequel. Thankfully, they are not alone. The director himself has already let slip a few details about a possible follow-up.

In an interview with Cinemablend, Travis Knight revealed that he too has already thought about Bumblebee 2. As a director, Knight explains that it is in his nature to keep looking forward. He knows that there are stories about the characters in his film that are still begging to be told.

Nevertheless, a sequel isn’t completely up to him. He already has plans but he hopes that audiences would want to see it:

“I think it certainly could be. I mean, when I get to the end of one of my movies, I always imagine what’s next for the characters. And so, in my mind, I’ve got all these scenarios and adventures that play out, both with Charlie and with Bee and everyone else. We’ll see if the world wants more. Maybe we’ll explore some of those things.”

While the sequel has yet to be confirmed, Knight isn’t the only one excited about the possibility of another Bumblebee feature. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, one of the producers of the movie, has also teased fans about a possible follow-up.

At the onset of the premiere, Bonaventura told reporters that it can be difficult for some people behind a production of the movie to think about a sequel. Unlike Knight, he considers it bad luck to do so.

However, he thinks the movie is strong enough to warrant another sequel. Moreover, knowing that he has two spectacular actors and a formidable director in tow, he seems confident about a Bumblebee Part 2:

“When we make any movie, it’s about the audience coming and showing up ‘coz we are never going to get to the other movie if the audience doesn’t come. So we tend to feel that it is a bit of a bad luck to think too much about the next one. But I think look at these two fantastic actors, there’s definitely a future with them in Bumblebee and hopefully Travis is gonna come along for the ride. He says he is so I’m gonna hold him to it. And there’s a lot to explore with Bumblebee,”

At this point, Paramount Pictures has yet to comment on the rumors surrounding Bumblebee 2.
