Brian Cox and Gaia Wise Star in BTS Featurette for LOTR: The War of the Rohirrim

It’s going to be a long wait until the next season of The Rings of Power, but WB Pictures is going the more experimental route with their animated prequel The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The movie is set to release this December, and a new BTS featurette has been dropped starring Brian Cox (Succession) and Gaia Wise (A Walk in the Woods).

Watch this new featurette for The War of Rohirrim:

LOTR fans are familiar with the Rohan faction of men, who specialize in the training of horses—hence being dubbed in Middle-earth as the ‘Horse Lords’. Though Rohan makes its debut in the second movie, they remained to be one of the most important allies in the War of the Ring.

Just like Rings of Power, War of the Rohirrim is looking to fill in the gaps in Tolkien’s lore and flesh out the history of Rohan. Though there is a lot of hype surrounding Helm Hammerhand, it does look like the real lead of this story is going to be Hera, who, like Eowyn, is also going to be a Rohan shieldmaiden.

Though this does look mainly like a clash between men, I am hoping that we get the appearance of more fantastical beings like Gandalf (Saruman has already been confirmed for the film).

Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg— a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep.

Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

Watch out for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim when it comes to cinemas on Dec. 13.
