The juggernaut video game developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment, known for the incredibly popular World of Warcraft and Diablo, is seeking new blood for an unannounced project. News comes via a job advertisement on Blizzard’s Irvine studio career page, reported by BlizzPro and relayed by IGN. The ad states the company is looking for a game director to “lead the Diablo series into the future”.
Vacancies have popped up from Blizzard for this project in the past, however it was never confirmed if this was a new game or content for a pre-existing game. However, this latest posting indicates it is indeed a new game, and a Diablo one at that.
It was reported earlier this month that the game director of Diablo III, Jay Wilson, left Blizzard which had fans wondering what would be next for the action role-playing franchise. Well, now it seems a new Diablo game is in the works and Blizzard is looking for somebody to steer the ship.
Diablo III initially released in 2012 to the tune of 3.5 million copies sold in 24 hours, making it the fastest selling PC game at the time. It didn’t take long for the likes of Sony and Microsoft to pick up on its success, prompting a console release for the game in 2014, which included the expansion pack Diablo III: Reaper of Souls.
It would make sense that the next Diablo game will have a universal release across PC and consoles, given its success on both platforms. However, it is very much in its early stages and we likely won’t hear anything about the upcoming Diablo for quite some time. With that said, it is exciting to know the franchise is moving forward.
