Marvel might be keeping a tight lid on its upcoming films, but the studio’s been rather open about its prequels, and now that Black Widow is headed for production, we have new details about Scarlet Johansson’s first standalone movie.

Last week, word came out that Black Widow’s script was being rewritten by The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby scriptwriter Ned Benson. Now, the rumor mill has been focusing on the villains that might appear in the latest version of the Marvel movie.

That Hashtag Show has some updates on the Black Widow character breakdowns fans got to check out last fall, and these updates puts its focus on the baddies of the movie.

“Marvel is seeking a male with open ethnicity in his 40s to portray the film’s villain, who is described only as ‘exciting’” the site wrote on its post.

Not only that, but according to THS, Marvel is also looking for “either a Black British or African actor, 30-45, to portray a ‘tough, dangerous, and mysterious’ villain.”

Though the description doesn’t bring to mind a specific Marvel villain, one theory about Black Widow’s villain still fits the bill. Taskmaster.

For those who aren’t familiar with the character, Tony Masters, otherwise known as Taskmaster was a Marvel’s Ultimate Comics Universe ex-mercenary who had the ability to mimic powers that he would come in contact with. Drawn as a middle-aged black man, Taskmaster would fit the bill for this supposed casting call for the villain of Black Widow.

Taskmaster would certainly be an interesting foe for Natasha Romanoff. What do you think?

Johansson is set to reprise her role as Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame which premieres on April 26, 2019.
