The DCEU may be gearing up for the release of Shazam!, but a lot of people have their eyes set on the first all-woman team-up film, Birds of Prey. The movie is currently in production, and some new set photos give us a look of the Birds coming together plus a look at Ewan McGregor’s villain, Black Mask.

If you look closely at the car, you can see that it’s McGregor in a literal Black Mask with Cassandra Cain along with him. This scene is probably where he gets his hands on her first, because we can also see Harley hanging from the back of the car. Most likely this chase will involve Harley in roller skates which we’ve seen from set photos before.
We don’t really know what the Black Mask would want with Cassandra Cain, but my guess is that she has some strong connections with an enemy gang—or possibly a ninja clan. I know ninja clan is the more comic-accurate connection, but it’s possible the film will try for something a bit more realistic.
As for the Birds coming together, it’s very likely that this scene happens at the end of the film. Though Harley Quinn is the central character, I hope the movie gives us some proper backstory and development on each of the members.
After [splitting] up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to hit theaters Feb. 7, 2020.
