The reveals for DCEU’s Birds of Prey just keep coming. After the 2020 release date was officially announced, we now have actresses attached to two main roles besides Harley Quinn.

As per Variety, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Underground) have been cast as the Huntress and Black Canary respectively. Both Winstead and Smollett-Bell will be joining Margot Robbie who is reprising her role of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad.

As of now, the Birds who have not been cast yet are Det. Renee Montoya and future Batwoman Cassandra Cain. It’s also been said that Batgirl won’t be appearing in this movie, but an appearance from Barbara Gordon has not been ruled out.

The Birds of Prey are relatively obscure to the mainstream, but the film is choosing a familiar Batman villain to be the main antagonist. According to reports, the Birds are going up against Black Mask. Like many other Bat-villains, the Mask doesn’t really have any powers, but he makes up for it with ruthlessness and a penchant for violence. In the comics, he drove Catwoman’s sister crazy by murdering her husband in front of her then force-feeding her his eyeballs.

The movie is going to be directed by Cathy Yan, and Robbie herself is attached to be the producer. The cast may be incomplete now, but hopefully they gather everyone necessary before September ends to make up for all the training and fight choreography.

Birds of Prey is set for a release on Feb. 7, 2020.
