After 10 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is reaching an end of an era with the next two Avengers movies. We know that the franchise plans to go on for longer, and Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch seemingly teases the exploration of the Multiverse.

A special video which came with the digital release of Thor: Ragnarok has Cumberbatch saying (via CinemaBlend):

“What we’ve seen happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is this ever-expanding couture of superheroes… I think now we’re at the stage where this universe, even within our world, has gotten quite crowded and it’s just about to explode into other dimensions.”

Though the Multiverse was teased back in Doctor Strange, it wasn’t really something that was explored upon. With the Disney/Fox deal currently undergoing finalization, some fans think that the Multiverse concept will play an integral part in integrating the X-Men into the MCU. Marvel just needs a clever way to bring mutants to the entire world, and imply that they’ve been there for a long time. It wouldn’t make sense for mutants to suddenly be a phenomenon and have characters like Professor X and Magneto just newly discovering their powers.

I’m actually eager to see more of Doctor Strange’s adventures besides an origin story. His world is such an interesting branch of the MCU that we’ve yet to explore. Maybe this time he can team up with Scarlet Witch. Is Ghost Rider too farfetched?

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange returns in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4.
