A lot of people are sad to see Ben Affleck leave the Batman part so soon, and recent reports have come out to reveal that Affleck was having a terrible time working with the DCEU toward the end. During a recent interview with GQ, Affleck opens up about what he loved about the role, and what eventually lead him to quit.
You can really see Affleck’s enthusiasm when it came to playing a darker, more nuanced Batman. He’s very specific about loving the work on Batman v Superman, and by the time he gets to Justice League, he’s very reserved about talking about all the problems that went down behind the scenes, including the death in Zack Snyder’s family and problems that seemed to pile on one after the other.
For now, fans are just hopeful that Affleck takes care of himself first. If anything, he’s looking a bit more chipper, and he’s also getting a lot of praise for his work on The Way Back. With all his other Justice League co-stars coming back to the DCEU, fans are hopeful that Affleck may get a return someday; maybe if DC is savvy enough to introduce a multiverse—which they kind of did with Joker, and supposedly with the upcoming Batman starring Robert Pattinson.
Here’s the synopsis for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:
It’s been nearly two years since Superman’s (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.
Catch Affleck in The Way Back now in theaters. The Batman is set for a release on June 25, 2021.
