Beetlejuice 2: Jenna Ortega to Play the Daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia

Winona Ryder may have been the OG goth girl in Beetlejuice, but with the sequel coming, it looks like someone else will have to take on that role.

DiscussingFilm reports that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has been cast in Beetlejuice 2, and she will be playing the part of Lydia Deetz’s (Winona Ryder) daughter. Ryder herself is set to appear in the film, and of course, it isn’t a Beetlejuice film if they didn’t bring back Michael Keaton.

It’s also worth mentioning that Tim Burton—who also directed Wednesday—is also back at the helm for the Beetlejuice sequel.

We don’t have any idea as to what the plot for Beetlejuice 2 is yet, but some speculate that it will be Ortega’s character that will summon him and have to deal with his undead shenanigans. If anything, we should expect a plot that’s similar to the first movie, with Beetlejuice wreaking havoc for both the living and the dead.

Here’s the synopsis of the original film:

Michael Keaton, Academy Award winner Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Winona Ryder star in director Tim Burton’s comic twist on supernatural horror tales–Beetlejuice. When a couple of nice, young homebody ghosts try to haunt the pretentious humans who have moved into their house, they ask for help from a demonic wraith they cannot control in this comic fantasy that mixes the quick and the dead with a laugh and a fright.

With a release set for Sept. 6, 2024, hopefully we get our first look at Beetlejuice 2 before the year ends. In the meantime, you can catch Ortega and Ryder in their own Netflix series Wednesday and Stranger Things (respectively).
