Avengers: Infinity War has yet to hit the big screen but fans of the franchise are already looking beyond the upcoming movie. Thankfully, while the sequel to Infinity Wars is still a full year away, news about the feature have already made their way online. What even makes the news more exciting is the fact that the news comes from the writers and director of the movie itself.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Avengers writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus gushed about the upcoming 2019 movie. According to McFeely, what makes the sequel to Infinity Wars even more exciting than the 2018 movie is the fact that not a lot of the feature has been revealed. While Infinity Wars would indeed be a feast for Marvel fans, the 2019 movie would be a great surprise for every filmgoer:

“We know pretty much what’s going on in Avengers 3. You’ve been told who’s the bad guy and what he wants for several movies and it’s not going to change: that’s what’s going to happen. You run it in the best possible way with twists along the way, but you have no idea what Avengers 4 is.”

McFeely also assures that fans wouldn’t feel cheated with Avengers: Infinity Wars. The sequel is confirmed but the movies wouldn’t feel incomplete without the other. Each is a different experience on their own:

“Nobody knows, and that’s what makes me particularly excited. I look all the time on the internet: people have no idea!. [Avengers] 4 resolves the intrigue of Infinity War; [the movies are] clearly linked, but they almost seem to belong to two different genres. We did not want to cut a film in half and say, ‘Pay now and come back in a year for the rest!’ These are two very different stories, on a tonal and structural level.”

In an earlier interview with ComicBook.com, Joe Russo, one of the directors of Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, has also chimed in about the process in which they made the two upcoming Marvel movies. According to the director, their goal was to make all the movies, including the ones in between Infinity Wars and its sequel, to work together:

“We look in a way that you would look at writers in comic books. People pick up different runs, and they go with it. If there are things from mythology that you are inspired by or you find relevancy in, you go with that. If there are things in mythology that you want to see differently, then you explore ways to execute it differently.”

Russo further explains that this is what he admires about Marvel movies – it explores different points of view in the Marvel Universe while maintaining a cohesive narrative:

“Same with you do in a comic run when you’re reading it. You go, ‘I want to see someone else’s point of view on this. That was an awesome point of view, and I had a lot of fun with that. Now I want to see something else. Now I want to see … ‘ That’s, I think, what Marvel’s done really well, by bringing in a lot of different voice to execute their films.”
