Avengers: Infinity War; Official Synopsis Teases Thanos’ Plan

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is still riding high at the box office, and there’s still Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther movies to come, but that doesn’t stop attentions turning toward Avengers: Infinity War already. Though the movie won’t arrive on the big screen until April next year, there’s already plenty of speculation over the plot of the movie, and who will, or will not, appear.

It’s long been known that Thanos will be the focus of Infinity War, with all of the Avengers setting aside differences in order to come together and stop his evil, but now we have a little more to go on in the form of an official synopsis from Licence Global (via Flickering Myth). Take a look:

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

We could yet see Thor: Ragnarok tying into Infinity War, since some are theorizing that the last Infinity Stone sits with Thor. That could well be revealed in Ragnarok, but either way, we know we will be seeing Chris Hemsworth and his hammer in both movies. In fact, the cast list for Infinity War is vast; surely one of the most A-list rosters ever? Here it is- all of it- and it’s quite the list:

Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket) Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector) (Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary are also listed in unconfirmed roles).

NOT listed, is Michael Rooker as Yondu. After his fate in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, it would be hard for him to return, and James Gunn has said that he’s not in the business of bringing characters back from the dead. Fair enough, but a recent casting call seems to suggest that Yondu WILL feature, since it was an advert for a Yondu stand-in. So, was James Gunn teasing us when he said dead means dead? Watch the video below, from That Hashtag Show, for more details.

Although Rooker has made quite the impression as Yondu, especially in Vol 2, we can’t exactly say his absence will be felt with a cast list of 32 A-list names. Still, it would be nice to see him appear. The same goes for Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell, but now we’re just being greedy.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released on April 27th, 2018 in the U.K., and May 4th 2018 in the U.S..
