Warning: potential spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War follow.
Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War had one of the largest superhero casts ever. The film gave us almost all of the Avengers, as well as introducing the new Spiderman and Black Panther. Yet, Avengers: Infinity War, the next film that Joe and Anthony Russo will be making for Marvel, is going to be even bigger.
Infinity War will be bringing the Guardians together with the Avengers, as well as teaming them up with other heroes in the MCU. This isn’t the only news, though. Speaking to Yahoo Movies, the Russo Brothers may have let slip a new character’s introduction.
The idea that another new Marvel character might be making an entry came up when the Russos were talking to Yahoo. In the interview they talked about introducing Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl to the franchise.
“Anthony would probably die from exhaustion if we introduced another character. That’s not to say we’re not going to introduce a new character.”
Sounds very mysterious, right? However, as we know from Civil War, Marvel never misses a chance to get their superhero leads on the big screen. Brie Larson will be playing Captain Marvel in a standalone film slated for 2019, but why not have her debut in Infinity War?
We still know little about the Captain Marvel film. According to the film’s writers, the comics won’t be offering clues either. Nicole Perlman, who also worked on Guardians, and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) have both confirmed that her origins will be different.
Marvel thought about giving Captain Marvel a debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The nature of Ultron’s story, as well as the busy cast meant the superhero was left out. What about Infinity War, though? Surely, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel should be in this epic, even if she’ll be starring alongside 67 other characters.
Avengers: Infinity War opens May 4, 2018.
