Probably one of my favorite character arcs for Avengers: Endgame was the revelation that Bruce Banner has found peace with himself and is now in Hulk mode 24/7. It was one of the most tightly kept secrets in the film, but now that the movie has been out for two weeks, Marvel has officially released the clip where we’re introduced to “Professor Hulk”.
Check him out:
Admittedly, the scene felt like it was cut too short for me. The Hulk infamously dabs at the kids after they leave and he also gives them generic advice like “listen to your mother, she knows better.” Though some may cringe at the moment, I thought it was a fun characterization to show that Bruce was still a dork deep down inside.
They also cut the shot of Ant-Man swearing saying, “Just take the goddamn phone.”
While I thought having Professor Hulk in the film brought the character full circle, some fans thought that this neutered the Hulk—preferring the green rage monster that we’ve been seeing in the past films. I mean, it’s okay to like what you want, but personally, from a character development perspective, having Banner fully in control of the Hulk seems better than keeping the Jekyll/Hyde dynamic where the Hulk is too hard to control. Like Banner said, Professor Hulk is the “best of both worlds.”
I bet it must be insane for Banner to keep himself fed with that size though.
