WB was ready to “kick-start the box office” with the release of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet this month, but seeing as how things are still pretty much terrible, it looks like they’ve opted to delay the release.

While we still have solid release dates for the month of August to December, it looks like Tenet will have to wait, since /Film has reported that the movie has been delayed indefinitely. WB head Toby Emmerich said in a statement:

“We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature…We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.”

Just by guessing, we can’t really tell WB plans to release Tenet, but I have a feeling we’re going to have to wait until 2021 to see it in theaters. If anything, the movie slate for the final months of the year have just been filling up, and if WB wants Tenet to succeed, they’ll try their best to keep a release date far from competition. Should a 2020 release be made, Tenet will find itself competing commercial giants like Wonder Woman 1984 and Denis Villenueve’s upcoming Dune.

At this point, I think I can wait. Nolan’s work has always been revered for its ‘spectacle’ and I would really prefer it came out in theaters at the right time. It would be a shame if they botched the release, maybe releasing it too early or having it go head-to-head with known brands. My opinion is they should just wait out until 2021, when hopefully things are closer to normal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3pk_TBkihU

Tenet has no current release date.
