While Arrow’s fourth season has its critics, it’s hard to fault their work this summer. The final minutes of the Season 4 finale and their summer casting hints it will be a very different show next time around. We’ve seen a new vigilante added, a new type of big bad teased and hints of the show heading back to basics. On top of that, fan favourite Artemis will be jumping to live action.
Variety is reporting that Artemis will be fighting alongside the Green Arrow next season, with a twist. It won’t be Artemis Crock, as seen in Young Justice. Artemis is set to be the new mantle for Evelyn Sharp, who made her debut last season. You may remember the character, played by Madison McLaughlin. She impersonated the Black Canary as she looked to get revenge for the death of her parents.
A superhero with dead parents, where have we heard that one before? In this case it’s interesting because it represents a further move away from the character of Artemis. Her parents were super villains Tigress and Sportsmaster, and we don’t see The CW shows just throwing away those characters like that. This is likely to be a very different take on the character.
The report from Variety says McLaughlin will be returning in the second episode of the new season. She’s going to be entering a Star City that resembles a cosplay convention at this point, as Arrow is likely to be full of costumed heroes. Olivier Queen is being joined by Artemis, plus Rick Gonzalez is playing Jack Wheeler/Wild Dog. Josh Segarra has been cast as Adrian Chase, who bore the mantle of Vigilante in the comics. He’s expected to adopt that unimaginative superhero codename in the show, too.
With the likes of Thea Queen/Speedy, John Diggle/Spartan and Roy Harper/Arsenal all set to appear, Star City will be rammed with vigilantes. We can’t wait to hear who will be facing off against all those heroes over the course of the season, they’ll need to pack quite a punch.
