Arrow’s executive producer Marc Guggenheim took to Twitter to announce production on Season 5 begins today. The news also included an image of the premiere’s draft cover sheet, featuring the title.

Legacy could entail any number of things, but that’s the beauty of it. Season 4 concluded with half of the remaining Team Arrow members walking away. Diggle returned to service, and Thea left to discover her true place in the world. Because new vigilantes will be entering the fold this season, it could relate to the team adopting a few new members. Artemis, Wild Dog, and Vigilante are all set to take up their own crusade against the continued corruption of Star City. The Legacy of Black Canary is also impending celebration, as Guggenheim previously teased an image of a memorial statue. Additionally, Roy Harper/Arsenal is in line to return in some capacity. However, when he will appear remains a mystery. As does the choice in title here.

With four seasons under its belt, Arrow has access to a long history it can now pull from, not including the source material. Stephen Amell and producers have touted the show returning to its roots. Recent details seem to prove as much, with Oliver’s past actions taking some focus this season. The flashbacks will use Russia as a backdrop, as the tail-end of Ollie’s 5-year journey away from home wraps. Hopefully, this truly marks Arrow’s return to what made it special in its first two outings.

Arrow returns October 5.
