A Special Look at Mary Poppins Returns

With Disney opting to release Solo: A Star Wars Story earlier this year, we don’t have any big blockbusters waiting for us this December. However, it seems that the studio is going to spend Christmas peddling their Mary Poppins reboot/sequel, and it does look amazing.

Check out this new special look:

In Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.

Besides the talent of Blunt and Miranda, we also have some performances from Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and Angela Lansbury. We also have an appearance from original Poppins actor Dick Van Dyke who is playing Mr. Dawes Jr. (in the original, he wore heavy make-up to play Dawes Sr.).

I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical about this movie when it was first announced, but just seeing the visuals in the trailer makes you feel how much they upped the ante with this movie. The first Poppins was already considered to have pushed the ingenuity of cinema, and seeing as how much its evolved over the decades, Returns could be one hell of a spectacle.

I never thought I’d miss seeing 2D animation from Disney so much.

Catch Mary Poppins Returns when it hits theaters Dec. 19.
