The funny thing about the Deadpool franchise is, despite its R-rating, a lot of kids still manage to like him, and it must kill them that they can’t watch the movie in theaters because they aren’t old enough. This Christmas season, however, Fox is promising to give Deadpool 2 to the kiddies by re-releasing a PG-13 cut of the film in theaters.

As per Deadline, Fox has decided to make a more child-friendly version of Deadpool 2. Not only is the movie going to tone down on violence and language, but it’s also going to get an entirely new narrative form as clued in by this post of Ryan Reynolds featuring Deadpool reading a bedtime story to Fred Savage (referencing his role in The Princess Bride):

When you compare Deadpool 2 and the first Deadpool, I guess it would be a bit easier to tone down the sequel as compared to its predecessor. After all, Deadpool 2 just has a gratuitous amount of violence which might be easier to censor. The first Deadpool had extensive sex and nudity scenes that would have been harder to cover up, counting that they’re much more embedded in the narrative.

It’s no mistake that Deadpool 2 was a hit, and for now, Fox is gearing up for the release of X-Force which will see the return of Deadpool, Cable, and Domino. We don’t know if plans will change once Disney acquires Fox next year, but for now, things look to be business as usual for this franchise.

The original cut of Deadpool 2 is now available for home video, but the kid-friendly version is set to hit theaters this Christmas Dec. 21.
