We’ve been getting a lot of sci-fi drama with movies like Ad Astra and The Martian, and now Netflix is looking to add to that catalogue with their latest film, Stowaway. We just got a new trailer, and it features a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Shamier Anderson, Anna Kendrick, Daniel Dae Kim, and Toni Collette.
Here’s the official description for Stowaway:
On a mission headed to Mars, an unintended stowaway accidentally causes severe damage to the spaceship’s life support systems. Facing dwindling resources and a potentially fatal outcome, the crew is forced to make an impossible decision.
It’s actually a very interesting take on genre, what with someone inexperienced suddenly finding themselves on mission to Mars. I was kind of hoping that the movie wouldn’t fall into the usual tropes of these space travel films, but once again, we have ‘life support’ not functioning well, and the team will have to find a way to survive space by going outside of the ship and risking getting lost in outer space.
Maybe I’m just being pessimistic. Stowaway actually does have an interesting premise going for it, and I’m eager to see how it plays out. It’s kind of interesting how the movie should cast Anderson as the lead, seeing as he doesn’t have the same star power as his co-stars Kendrick Kim, and Collette; I guess it adds a meta element to just how lost his character is when he finds himself in space.
Catch Stowaway when it comes to Netflix on April 22.
