We’ve barely got any updates on the upcoming Rey Skywalker movie, but Adam Driver decided to drop a big Star Wars bomb a few weeks ago when he revealed that Disney rejected a pitch for a movie called The Hunt for Ben Solo.
Driver had unwittingly launched a big fan campaign to get Disney to greenlight the movie, and while it’s no #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, it did have the Star Wars fandom buzzing for a good minute. What’s interesting is, Daisy Ridley actually knew about the project, but was surprised that it was Driver who spilled the beans.
In a recent interview with IGN, Ridley was asked about The Hunt for Ben Solo, to which she replied, “I knew a piece of it. I heard rumblings… I have lots of friends who are crew, so things always travel like that. But, whoa! When the story came out, no, I was like, ‘Oh, my God!’ And it was him that said it, right?”
We don’t know exactly what the status of Hunt for Ben Solo is now after Driver made his big reveal, but Ridley does say that she’s happy to see some positive feedback from fans who are also excited to return to the Sequel Trilogy era. She says:
“The way the internet seems to have rallied to try and get it to happen. I think one), it’s fantastic for us all. It’s good for us to all be united about something in a really positive way. Obviously, everyone knows he was a very popular character, but it was also lovely to think, ‘Wow, people really, really care and want this.’ I just… I like it.”
For now, a lot of fans consider Star Wars to be a in a dark period where a lot of focus is put on projects that pander to nostalgia, but every once in a while we get big swings like Skeleton Crew and Andor—projects which I absolutely love.
As for the Sequel Trilogy films, we have that Starfighter movie from Shawn Levy, but I still have hope that the Rey Skywalker movie happens sooner rather than later.
The next Star Wars project coming to theaters is The Mandalorian and Grogu which hits cinemas on May 22, 2026.
