4. More (Alleged) Interference from Warner Bros.?
We don’t need to revisit the storied tales of studio interference that reportedly excised Zack Snyder and David Ayer’s visions on Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, respectively. But we would be remiss in failing to at least acknowledge it as a possible reason behind Affleck’s directorial departure. Snyder’s original cut of his film was restored in the R-rated version, and improved a few of BvS‘ lingering issues. However, no such treatment was given to Suicide Squad, and Ayer is adamant about one not being necessary, despite conflicting reports.
From the jump, Ben Affleck has been consistent in saying a bad Batman film with him at the helm is not an option. Perhaps his plans and those of Warner Bros. aren’t lining up exactly. If so, Affleck taking a step back may be the best bet in the long run. The last thing The Batman needs is a compromised vision and production turmoil behind the scenes.
