4. Video game geeks are geeks too!
Remember LJN? They used to put out godawful video games based on various properties, including comic books. Their X-Men and Silver Surfer games were so legendarily bad, they practically made the careers of guys like James Rolfe, YouTube’s Angry Video Game Nerd. But gamemakers weren’t thinking about the internet back then. They just wanted to put games out. Unfortunately, so many bad ones got out that it ruined the idea of pixelated superheroes for most gamers.
A generation later, we still see the occasional bad game adaptation (Iron Man 2 rings a bell), but the quality of comics-based video games has risen. DC has the edge in this department with its Arkham games and Injustice: Gods Among Us. Marvel will surprise you now and then with an Ultimate Alliance or Marvel Vs. Capcom sequel. Superheroes lend themselves to all kinds of video game genres, from long adventures to arcade beat em’ ups. So if Call of Duty doesn’t do it for you, take heart. You just want to be Batman that much more.
