New trailers for Captain America: Civil War have just been released giving us a long-awaited look at villain Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) and a little more Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). Both spots are part of Marvel’s international campaign to promote the film.
Both trailers are from Germany, which (weakly) explains why Dr. Helmut Zemo, 13th Baron Zemo, features a bit more than he has in the States (hint: he hasn’t at all). Apparently, Americans would be so confused seeing a German in a Captain America film, they might decide against going to see it. Oh wait…
Next, Germany scores again by getting more Ant-Man footage than has been shown across the pond:
You wouldn’t know it, but Baron Zemo is the main villain in Civil War, unless you want to cite abstracts such as moral struggle and strained bonds of friendship. Brühl has been largely left out of much of the talk surrounding the film until recently. Other cast members left in the background during Marvel’s huge marketing push are Martin Freeman (Everett K. Ross) and Frank Grillo (Crossbones).
Crossbones, better known from Captain America: Civil War as SHIELD/STRIKE-nope-actually-HYDRA agent Brock Rumlow, is back for revenge after being charred to a crisp and buried under tons of rubble when the Triskelion (SHIELD/HYDRA’s headquarters) was taken down by Captain America and friends.
Ross (no apparent relation to General Ross, also in the film) is a government official and part of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre. Basically, he’s the guy entrusted to escort T’Challa/Black Panther, King of Wakanda, onto American soil. When the Sokovia Accords (you’ll learn a lot about those very soon) come into play, Ross becomes part of the group trying to keep Team Captain America in check, largely due to his loyalty to T’Challa.
How large a part these three play remains to be seen, but the wait is ever-decreasing. Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6.
