If you’ve seen Batman V Superman (or even just the trailers) you’ll know that, while we don’t meet Batman’s faithful sidekick, Robin’s costume does feature in the film. It appears on display in the Batcave with Joker-y graffiti all over it, something that has got fans theorising. Well, theorise no more, as director Zack Snyder has spilled the beans on what actually happened.
Speaking to IGN, Snyder elaborated on what he imagined this Batman’s backstory was. See what he had to say in the video above or read it below:
“In my mind, it was that Robin had died about 10 years earlier, during some run-in with a young Joker. So there was a fun backstory there to play with. I felt like the whole idea was that there had been loss and there had been sacrifice. In a weird way, he sacrificed everything to be Batman. He doesn’t really have a life outside the cave. I thought that by including Robin — a dead Robin — was helping us understand that he’s been on quite a little journey.”
Was this a clever move from Snyder or just a waste of a good character? Let us know what you think in the comments.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is in cinemas now.
