The latest, and possibly final, trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse has been released, which is packed with exciting reveals. Apocalypse’s aim to destroy the world is made clear, as is the appearance of Wolverine. While we don’t get a glimpse of Hugh Jackman’s face, we do see those signature claws.

There’s plenty more going on within this trailer, as we get confirmation that Magneto is Quicksilver’s father. This was previously teased in Days of Future Past, but the full reveal is one Fox has given away pretty early. Similar to previous trailers, it seems as though Mystique will be leading the team, with Bryan Singer yet again side-lining Professor X.

Continuing the trend of trailers now containing post credit scenes, our glimpse at Wolverine was saved right until the end. A recent rumour placed him in this trailer, with Jackman apparently being added into the film during reshoots. If true, his role in taking down Apocalypse probably won’t be as big as his Days of Future Past appearance.

The interesting thing about Wolverine showing up is the recent timeline change. The much loathed X-Men Origins: Wolverine was set around the same time as the early 1980’s based Apocalypse. With a newly reset timeline, that film is no longer canon. Could we possibly see a new take on Logan’s run-in with the Weapon X program? The adamantium claws in the trailer suggest so.

We get plenty of plot in the body of the trailer, as Magneto is seen grieving for his family. It’s believed that tragedy is what drives him to join with Apocalypse. The titular mutant has his aims laid out for viewers here: he’s wants to destroy everything in the world. With Mystique and a batch of young mutants standing in the way, this is set up to be an epic battle.

X-Men: Apocalypse is out on May 27 in the US and May 18 in the UK.
