Backstage at the MTV Movie Awards, Will Smith told Josh Horowitz how his DC character, Deadshot, could replace Bruce Wayne as the Bat. He backs up his bold claim with source material, and it honestly sounds pretty awesome, even though it’s unlikely to happen on the big screen. The comic referenced, Batman #59: The Man Who Replaced Batman (1950), is actually Deadshot’s first appearance.
“There was one of the comics, I don’t’ remember the number, but there was one of the comics where Bruce Wayne got injured and I think Deadshot, for a couple of them, came in. He had to throw on the Batsuit. I’m just saying, if they were going to draw from that, I wouldn’t reject it. I’m a team player. If they need me in the suit, I’m in it… [Ben Affleck] can do it for a couple; he can do it for two or three, and then he gets injured and Deadshot has to take over. To me, it’s the logical progression, he joked.”
Watch the video below. It’s a must see, especially since Will does his own version of the ‘Batman growl.’

It’s moments like this that reminds us all of why we love him so much. Unfortunately, the wait to see Will Smith’s Floyd Lawton take over for Bruce Wayne in the cape and cowl may be an indefinite one. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to see DC’s most lethal assassin make his silver screen debut as Suicide Squad arrives in theaters on August 5.
