Star Trek is finally coming home… to television, that is. While we still have no idea who is even going to star in the new series, CBS released a short teaser at its upfront presentation before advertisers at Carnegie Hall, today.

The teaser answers none of our questions, but it does tease “new crews,” “new villains,” “new heroes” and “new worlds.” In it, we are taken through a solar system before the familiar Federation logo takes over the image.

The new Star Trek series will be overseen by Bryan Fuller, who got his TV career started at Deep Space Nine and Voyager. He also wisely picked The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country director Nicholas Meyer to join the writers’ room.

Last month, the site Birth.Movies.Death reported the first season of the new show will start some time between The Undiscovered Country and The Next Generation. In other words, it will be set in the classic timeline, not in the alternative universe established in the 2009 film. While the new show won’t take place in the movie universe, Alex Kurtzman is still involved as an executive producer. It was also reported that there are plans to make this an anthology series. The reference to multiple “new crews” in the teaser might confirm as much.

Star Trek is set to begin production in Toronto and will debut in 2017. The first episode will air on CBS, but the remainder of the season will only be available on CBS All Access.

For those wondering, while Star Trek was born on television 50 years ago, the new series will be the first Trek show since Enterprise ended in 2005. Amazingly, from 1987 – when The Next Generation debuted – to 2005, there was no season without a Trek series.
