Paramount has released the next Transformers’ official title and a teaser trailer. The title, The Last Knight, likely refers to the Knights of Cybertron. The Knights were a fabled group of early Transformers who departed their home planet with little proof of their existence remaining.
You can check out the teaser trailer below, where a still image of Optimus Prime is displayed. Throughout the teaser, Prime’s breathing can be heard in the background.
The teaser also touts the film is scheduled to begin production this summer in Detroit on June 6. Though, it will also be shot in other unnamed locations around the world. “Having one of the highest-profile film franchises created in Michigan is a major economic boost and a testament to the talent of the state’s production community,” said Jenell Leonard, commissioner of the Michigan Film & Digital Media Office. “The production and economic investment is now happening sooner rather than later, and obviously, the project is a certainty rather than merely a possibility,” Leonard noted when the plans for production were revealed.
Michael Bay will return to direct, working with a script from Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man) and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down). Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto are also attached to the franchise’s fifth installment.
The Last Knight will also see the return of Mark Wahlberg from Transformers: Age of Extinction as Cade Yeager. Leading the charge alongside Wahlberg is franchise newcomer Isabela Moner (Growing Up Fisher), who will act as the female lead, Izabella. The film will additionally star The Carmichael Show’s Jerrod Carmichael, whose role has yet to be specified.
Transformers: The Last Knight is slated to hit theaters next summer on June 23, 2017.
