Lionsgate Studios have released the UK version of the trailer for their upcoming Midnight Run style comedy-action caper, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Salma Hayek, Elodie Yung, Joaquim De Almeida, Kirsty Mitchell, with Richard E. Grant.

Reynolds plays the world’s top protection agent, who’s assigned a new client; a notorious hitman, embodied by Samuel L. Jackson, who he has to escort to the International Court of Justice to testify. Having been at loggerheads for years, with many a bullet exchanged between them, they’re forced to team up in order to get from England to the Hague, all whilst being hunted down by Gary Oldman’s murderous dictator, who’s set on creating trouble for the pair at every destination they arrive at in order to prevent Jackson taking the stand.

Ryan Reynolds is white hot right now, or red, should you wish to use the Deadpool imagery, so it’s interesting to see what his first post-Merc movie will turn out like. He could have his pick of the scripts landing on his doorstep, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard appears to be in his wheelhouse of action and wisecracking. Coupled with Samuel L. Jackson, who could do this role in his sleep, and looks to be having fun, especially during the nun-minibus sequence, they could make for a very watchable pairing. Having Gary Oldman on villain duties as Vladislav Dukhovich looks to be the masterstroke of the film, adding an element of must-see, largely because we can all remember his iconic turns in True Romance and Air Force One.

Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment presents, Millennium Films presents, in association with Cristal Pictures and East Light Films, a Millennium Films and a CG Films production of The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Released August 18th in the UK.
