Three decades. It has been nearly three decades since the advent of the fantasy/horror phenomenon into popular culture. Additionally, for many of those years rumors of its return have run amok. Though nothing concrete was ever settled.

The director moved on, the cast moved on, but fans waited… and waited. It would seem the wait is finally over, if Tim Burton’s recent statement to Showbizspy is to be believed.

“The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael. We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.”

You read right, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton are both on board. But hold on a second. Showbizspy later received a statement from a rep saying the following:

“Tim Burton did not confirm Beetlejuice 2 as the movie is not in development. Tim’s focus is entirely on Miss Preegrine’s Home For Peculiar Children set for a September 30 2016 release and developing Dumbo.”

While this is true, in regards to what the public knows Burton is currently working on, that does not mean it’s all true. Perhaps this is an effort to quell rumors so the real announcement can hit as a surprise, as if anything is ever a surprise in Hollywood. Still, Burton’s confirmation should not be taken with a grain of salt; he would certainly know what he has churning. Unless Warner Bros. decides to drop the alleged approval, it would seem Beetlejuice is finally getting the long awaited sequel fans have been clamoring to see.
