The sequel to last year’s surprise smash Kingsman: The Secret Service has been announced for a while – and now we finally know some details about it.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, returning director Matthew Vaughn revealed that the sequel’s title will be Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The plot will see agents Eggsy and Merlin join forces with the Kingsman’s US counterpart, the Statesman (who include Halle Berry). Vaughn had this to say on his reasons for doing the movie:
“I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot… You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before.”
Empire also revealed some concept art for the film: a Kingsman cab that can go underwater, the Statesman’s HQ and the secret lair of Julianne Moore’s villain.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is currently pencilled in for release on 17th June 2017.
