Steven Spielberg’s newest film will bring to life another Roald Dahl classic, The BFG, with a mix of live action and animation. A new trailer for the film, which is the master filmmaker’s first movie produced with Disney, was released today.
The story of The BFG finds orphan Sophie (played by newcomer Ruby Barnhill) being taken from an orphanage by The Big Friendly Giant (Oscar-winner Mark Rylance of Bridge of Spies) to stop even bigger, man-eating giants from taking over the world of man. The book was adapted for the screen by the late Melissa Mathison, who also wrote Spielberg’s E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.
Disney will release the film on July 1. The cast also includes Bill Hader, Rebecca Hall, Jemaine Clement and Penelope Wilton.
