Years ago, even before Batman, Telltale announced they were working on a Marvel title. Details regarding what it was were never unveiled. A few days ago, rumors began circling, saying Telltale had their sights on Guardians of the Galaxy. The Game Awards have proven the recent reports and speculation right. Remember everyone’s adoration of the film’s opening? So too do the developers. Take a look at the Guardians of the Galaxy a Telltale Series teaser trailer below:

Akin to what fans have come to expect from the studio, the series will span five episodes. It’s set to begin launching in 2017 on consoles, PC, and mobile devices. Like Batman and the upcoming release of The Walking Dead Season 3, Guardians of the Galaxy will also receive a physical release. The disc will launch with one episode, allowing access to the four subsequent chapters.

What will the narrative entail? That’s yet to be revealed. However, Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner did tease that “players will take on multiple roles within the ragtag band of heroes, and take the pilot’s seat in directing their escapades around the universe.”

Surely this means Groot will be playable, right? Can you imagine having to make intense story-changing decisions with only one word at your disposal? Jokes aside, that very thing could indeed happen. As Tales from the Borderlands proved, Telltale still has a knack for nailing humor. Guardians of the Galaxy will no doubt allow them to stretch their wings a bit further.

Marvel Games & Innovation Senior VP Jay Ong added more in a statement via IGN:

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series fully showcases Marvel and Telltale’s rich legacy of storytelling, and fans will find themselves immersed in an original, character-driven narrative. As part of our strategy to establish a new standard for Marvel games, this is certainly among the great titles to come.”
