After yesterday’s first glimpse at The Magnificent Seven remake, we now have the first trailer. The film, a new version of the 1960 classic, is directed by Antoine Fuqua. He’ll be hoping his update of the tale can connect with modern audiences.

The original Magnificent Seven was held in pretty high regard, and it was also a remake. It was based off Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. The 2016 version has the bar set pretty high, as it follows on from those hugely loved films. Based on the trailer, it looks like the latest version will have a few fans of its own.

The trailer focuses on the film’s two biggest stars. Chris Pratt has been on a hot streak at the box office lately, so it’s no surprise that he features a lot here. It’s clear from this first look that Denzel Washington’s Sam Chisolm brings the seven together.

But there’s very little in here telling us what actually brings them together. We hear a little from Haley Bennett’s character as she talks to Denzel, but outside of that the teaser keeps focus on the two main characters, while introducing the Seven.

Of course, there’s still plenty of time until the film comes out. Releasing a teaser five months out may be late by modern Hollywood standards, but there’s still time for another few trailers. It’s likely we’ll know much more about the film by the time its 23 September release date rolls around.
