Audiences have plenty to look forward to this summer, thanks to blockbuster after blockbuster releasing in theaters over the next few months. Twitter has become a pretty good way of calculating popularity, and a brilliant marketing tool for studios to get fans in on the fun before their movies officially launch. It would appear Warner Bros. is excelling at it, since the social media platform has announced (via USA Today) Suicide Squad is the most tweeted upcoming film set to release within the next three months.

Between March 1 and May 26, the supervillainous ensemble movie has been tweeted over one million times. Most of the buzz can be attributed to the recent #JokerWasHere hashtag, which featured a Joker smile emoji alongside it. The film also received a big boost when the Blitz trailer was released in April; a tweet with the trailer embedded has, to date, earned roughly 130,000 retweets and 170,000 likes.

Other upcoming films within the same time frame received impressive numbers, as well: Pixar’s Finding Dory (June 17) with 869,000 tweets; Ghostbusters (July 22) with 565,000; Me Before You (June 3) with 329,000; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (June 3) with 251,000; and the Warcraft (June 10) adaption coming in at 244,000.

Again, all very impressive, but these films don’t hold a candle to the ones released before summer; heavy hitters like Captain America: Civil War and X-Men: Apocalypse are in leagues of their own. Fans were encouraged to comment on where their allegiances were between Captain America and Iron Man, with the help of character emjois for #TeamCap, #TeamIronMan, and several other heroes from the film. These efforts helped the box office hit generate approximately 10.4 million tweets, while 1.8 million were managed by Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse, all during the same time period stated above.

Suicide Squad opens on August 5, but you can check out early fan reactions here.
