Spider-Man will be swinging onto home theatres in time for the holidays. Sony has announced release dates for the Spider-Man: Homecoming Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD, as well as a digital release. The film will be available for digital download on November 3rd, and on Blu-ray (etc.) on November 20th. There will also be a special collector’s edition featuring figurines of Spider-Man and the Vulture in battle.
Sony also announced the special features on the Spider-Man: Homecoming Blu-ray. Along with the standard gag reel and deleted scenes, fans can dive deep into the making of the movie with seven behind-the-scenes featurettes, covering Tom Holland’s casting, Michael Keaton’s take on the Vulture, the Spider-Man stunt work, and more. Also worth noting is more of the movie’s most fun cameo: the digital discs include four additional, unseen PSAs by Captain America (Chris Evans).
Only on the Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD is a special bonus track, the Spider-Man Study Guide. For fans who want behind-the-scenes glimpses while watching the movie itself, the Study Guide provides pop-up factoids about the film while you watch, like a less-intrusive commentary track.
Spider-Man:Homecoming was a huge success for both Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, who assisted in the MCU-connected Spider-movie. After a big opening weekend, Spider-Man: Homecoming had strong legs throughout the summer, outgrossing both Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel. Strong international performance made it the highest grossing superhero film of 2017 thus far. Its domestic take of $331.8 million lags behind both Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but international grosses pushed its total take to $874 million, ahead of both films, and in terms of the Spider-Man franchise passing everything except Spider-Man 3. Whether or not Homecoming can hold that title remains to be seen, with the highly anticipated Thor: Ragnarok and DC team-up Justice League still to come in November.
