BBC America‘s TV version of acclaimed author Douglas Adams’ genre-busting Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency novels has been in the works for a while, but now we finally know who will be playing the lead.

Deadline have announced that British actor Samuel Barnett will star in the title role. While not a household name, Barnett has turned up in quite a bit, including The History Boys and Jupiter Ascending. Adapting Adam’s books will be in-demand scriptwriter Max Landis and the other week it was revealed that Elijah Wood would be playing Gently’s assistant, Todd. With this kind of talent involved, colour us interested!

A synopsis for the show is below:

Dirk Gently is a comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently (Barnett) and his reluctant assistant Todd (Wood), as they wend their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.

The eight-part series is expected to air this autumn.
