Ryan Reynolds has been trying to nail a successful comic book movie role for years, appearing in the under-performing Blade: Trinity, Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This year, he has finally found the perfect part, as a rebooted Wade Wilson in the Deadpool movie about to blast its way onto cinema screens.
His superhero ambitions won’t end there though, as Reynolds has said that the next project he really wants to be involved in is the planned X-Force movie, which has been wallowing in development hell over at Fox for a while now.
In an interview with Filmstarts, Reynolds was asked where Deadpool is headed next. Here’s his reply:
“There’s so much material to mine in just the X-Men universe. In the future, if we’re doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we’re really going to explore the X-Men a lot. We’ll see. And maybe X-Force – X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in.”
As the title may suggest, X-Force is a spin-off of the X-Men team, about a group of mutants who take a more militant and aggressive approach to stopping the bad guys. The group is usually led by Cable (who is yet to be seen on screen, as he has a complex time-hopping backstory in the comics) but their line-up has also included Deadpool.
The latest news on the movie came back in 2013, when Fox announced that Jeff Wadlow, of Kick-Ass 2, was set to both write and direct the movie. Concept art was also released, featuring team members Cable, Domino, Warpath, Cannonball and Feral as they may look in the film.
Ryan Reynolds lobbied for a Deadpool movie for years and that has now come to fruition – so if lightning can strike twice for the guy, an X-Force movie may well be on the way.
