With Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War fast approaching its cinematic premiere, fans everywhere are beginning to ask ‘what’s next for Marvel and the Avengers?’

Thankfully, and albeit purposely, Civil War directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, in a recent interview with Forbes, spilled the beans on a few minor details concerning the next Avengers movie, Infinity War, giving us just enough to chew on until the end of Civil War.

Excerpt from the interview with Forbes;

“Bearing in mind characters you need to include and stories that are told, how much of where the franchise goes next is down to you as creatives and how much is steered by Disney and Marvel?”

JR: “Maybe there’s a character requirement but with things like Avengers: Infinity War that’s obvious because it’s a culmination of all the films in the phase that have preceded it. You know that Thanos is going to be in there and the majority of the Marvel Universe is going to appear in the movies. Those are givens, but after that we can construct any narrative we want around it and what we think is the best execution of the story.”

“So you have mentioned characters that we know are going to be in Avengers: Infinity War but are there going to be characters that we don’t already know are going to be in there?”

AR: “There are certain characters that you don’t know.”

“New characters?”

JR: “New characters that are going to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s a big sprawling ambitious movie, it’s about as ambitious as movies get and it should be, and the title alone indicates that there will be an incredible scape and scope to it.”

AR: “It is intended to be the entire culmination of the Marvel cinematic universe and, in many ways, the end to that part of it. But we don’t even have the first draft in on that script yet; we’re still in the outline phase. It’s hard not to talk about it too specifically now only because of spoilers but also because we’re still figuring it out.”

“So you guys don’t even know?”

AR: “We have an idea but let’s see if that evolves over the next couple of months.”

“Ah, here we go.”

Not only does Marvel pay big money to the Russo’s to direct their films, but also to provide fuel to ignite a flame of endless debate.

Chatrooms and Facebook pages will be filled to the brim with geeks, fans, and movie lovers alike, arguing  over who they believe will be in the next Avengers movie.

So, who do you expect to see fight against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War?

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to release in 2018.
