In the weeks leading to the release of Captain America: Civil War, directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo have spoken about the most recent Stan Lee appearance, and what it means for the overall arc of the film’s story. Speaking with Nova 96.9, Joe Russo spoke in detail about the process of writing, preparing, and filming the part for the comic book legend.
“You know, as we work through the script, we look for a great cameo for Stan as we’re writing you know, and that’s our interaction with Stan.”
Speaking further, he discussed the importance and challenges of his role in Captain America: Civil War, and how each cameo marks an important part of any Marvel film, a moment which fans across the world eagerly await.
“You’re always looking to keep it different with him and you want to surprise the audience because they get a kick out of it, but you also want to make it relevant in some way, so he delivers a key piece of information in the movie.”
With only one week before the details of Stan Lee’s cameo are revealed, fans have to sit back and wait to see exactly what the Russo Brothers have planned for audiences anticipating the legendary battle between Captain America, Iron Man, et al.
According to Tech Insider, Stan Lee has made a total of 28 cameos in his superhero films, starting as a hot dog vendor in 2000’s X-Men. 16 years later, at age 93, he shows no sign of slowing down, as we can expect him to appear in many, if not all, of Marvel’s Phase 3 films in the coming years.
