Joe and Anthony Russo have dropped a load of interesting nuggets of information over the publicity tour for their new Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War – including teasing new characters, ruling out others and announcing title changes. Now they have spoken out on a topic that will get comic book fans everywhere salivating: the possibility of Wolverine appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Collider, the Russos were asked what character that 20th Century Fox owns the rights to would they love to introduce into the MCU movies. Naturally, they picked ol’ Wolvie.

“First favorite character growing up was Spider-Man, second was Wolverine. One of my most-prized possessions is ‘Incredible Hulk’ #181. It was his first appearance,” said Joe. “It’s in my collection. It’s sitting in a safe. I won’t disclose where it is.”

“I know where it is,” Anthony joked, before adding: “And I would say Wolverine as well, for all of the exciting reasons that we all gravitate to.”

The pair also expressed their interest in a movie starring Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, which is something else that will please fans.

“It’s a no-brainer, right?” said Anthony, while Joe added: “I don’t think [it’ll take] much. I think it’s just a function of where on the slate it goes. She’s a bad-ass.”

It is clear from these sorts of comments that the Russos are big Marvel fans and are at least considering making more movies for the studio. When asked what is next for them after two-part movie event Avengers: Infinity War, the brothers cautiously left the door open for more.

“It’s so hard to say because we’re working through 2019, which is a long way from now,” Joe explained. “So it’s very difficult to say what our headspace will be like then and what we’ll be interested in, whether we’ll still be invigorated to keep working on larger stories, or whether we’ll want to do some smaller stories…”

Anthony, meanwhile, added: “I will say this: Our experience with Marvel has been amazing and we really do feel like we’re in our creative sweet spot there. So it’s definitely a place that we’ll always think about.”
