There has been a generally negative response regarding the trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot. Director Paul Feig wasn’t the only choice to jump-start the nostalgic franchise. Sony Entertainment considered Joe and Anthony Russo to create their own spin-off on the source material. However, the all-female reboot had already been announced prior to the Sony leak. Joe Russo spoke with Forbes regarding the potential Ghostbusters Spin-Off.

“There is no status with [Ghostbusters] for us, there was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about Ghostbusters and we were also engaging them. He was further along with his process than we were and he closed his deal so that’s the only Ghostbusters world that’s being explored right now over at Sony. Once we took Avengers: Infinity War, it [took] us off the table for any kind of any potential work on a Ghostbusters project.”

Marvel certainly knew what they were doing when they locked in the Russo Brothers for the long-haul. Perhaps, Feig and the Russos battled for the opportunity, or maybe Paul Feig was the front runner all along. Either way, Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters will hit theaters  15 July 2016. But, Joe and Anthony Russo’s never will.
