Yet another remake on the horizon. This time it is another musical remade for TV. Would it be better if we said revival, as they say on Broadway? The Rocky Horror Picture Show is coming this Halloween just in time for LGBT debates to really be heated up right before the U.S. Presidential elections. Though we’re sure that’s not what Fox had in mind when it came to scheduling this revival.

Plans for the remake of 1975’s cult movie, which was based on the 1973 musical stage production, started around the thirty year anniversary of the film over a decade ago. Since then, there have been plenty of names floated around to be part of the production, but now we know the actual stars involved. In this recently released preview from the network we can see Laverne Cox as gender bending alien Dr. Frank-N-Furter. That role was made famous by Tim Curry in the movie before he went on to play Nigel Thornberry and an evil, alien Clown in Stephen King’s It. Curry will also be part of the new production as the narrator, known as The Criminologist.

The original film was met with indifference by audiences when it released, but over the years grew into a phenomenon after constant showings with heavy audience participation. Rocky Horror Show fans are known for their odd behaviors during these sing along showings. However, since the movie wasn’t released until the late 1980’s in the U.K. and 1990’s in the States, catching it in the theaters with a bunch of crazies was the only way to see it. It should be noted that once the film was released on home video it was derided by those ‘Midnight Madness’ fans as being lame, due to the lack of audience participation. We’ll have to see how this version works for those who still brave the late night showings.

Victoria Justice, Adam Lambert and Ben Vereen round out the big stars in the cast of only a few. A preview states it will be shown Halloween of this year, but right now there is no word on whether that actually means October 31 or just during that holiday season.
