Hot on the heels of the final trailer, we now have the first clip from X-Men: Apocalypse. With the film’s last marketing push about to kick off, they’ve started with a background on the titular villain. You can watch the origin behind the first mutant below.

As you can see, the clip shows Rose Byrne’s Moira MacTaggert has been researching ancient mutants. She shares that with Professor X and Havok, who seem to be trying to track down Apocalypse. It really pushes the incredible power of En Sabah Nur, with Charles Xavier calling him an, “all powerful mutant”. It also continues the trend of the X-Men films rewriting history. It seems like the villain inspired bible stories as well as cult followers.

The clip briefly touches on Apocalypse’s four horsemen, who will play a major part in the film. We know that Storm, Magneto, Archangel and Psylocke will be taking up those roles.

It’s not the most shocking piece of footage to release, but it does give viewers a much better understanding of just what Professor X and Co. are facing next month. Given that the X-Universe is gearing up for its ninth film, they need to up the stakes to keep viewers interested.

There’s also a newly released behind-the-scenes look at the film. It takes us inside the X Mansion, which has had a bit of a makeover since we last saw it in Days of Future Past. Hear from stars of the film and the crews who built the sets, as they talk about the biggest X-Men film to date.

We’ll get even more background on En Sabah Nur when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theatres on May 27.
