Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for the upcoming animated film adaption of Alan Moore’s classic, Batman: The Killing Joke. The art mimics that of the graphic novel well, and the dialogue between Batman and Joker is taken verbatim from the work. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill have never sounded better together. This is sure to be one of the year’s best. Check out the excellent first look below.

The film has been getting tease after tease — starting with the first image reveal via Mark Hamill’s Twitter page that confirmed his and Conroy’s return, and the recent announcement that the film would indeed receive an R rating. The latter news, like the former, was met with much jubilation. Another recent revelation came by the way of an official reveal that The Killing Joke would feature a 15 minute prologue focusing on Batgirl/Barbara Gordon, voiced by the amazing Tara Strong, reprising her role.

No word yet on the release date, but it is coming sometime later this year to Blu-ray/DVD. A preview is also scheduled to go live during San Diego Comic-Con this summer. Watch the trailer another dozen times, and express your feelings of excitement in the comments down below.
