James Gunn, director of the eagerly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, has shared a new piece of concept art from the movie.

The image, which was created by artist Andy Park, comes via Empire Magazine and was shared on Gunn’s Facebook page. In it, the Guardians can be seen battling some giant tentacled monster. Well, everybody bar little Baby Groot. Whether this will appear in the movie itself remains to be seen.

Check it out below:

After recently being introduced to the new Guardians roster in a previous image (which included our first look at Pom Klementieff’s Mantis), it’s not too hard to pinpoint where this particular piece of concept art may fall in the movie’s timeline. The image above shows-off the original lineup of Guardians, including the very lovable and merchandise-able Baby Groot. Since we don’t see Mantis, Yondu, or Nebula, this battle could be set in an earlier scene of the movie. Of course, this is all speculation. It could also be another scene entirely that just happens to highlight Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot.

Who are they fighting exactly? Your guess is as good as ours, but Gunn did direct a movie titled Slither (starring Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker) that featured tentacled slug monsters. This isn’t foreign territory for the guy. In the comments section of his Facebook post Gunn identified it as “an Abilisk” after someone asked what it was. The creature also appeared in the San Diego Comic-Con footage that was shown back in July.

What role will this tentacled monster fulfill in the film? We won’t know for sure until the movie hits theatres. (Watch, this will be a one-off battle that has no actual impact to the plot.) Catch the Guardians in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 next year on May 5th.
