Ford has released two car commercials featuring characters from the Metal Gear game franchise. David Hayter, voice of Solid Snake in the series (prior to Ground Zeros and The Phantom Pain) revealed the commercials via his Twitter page.

In the first commercial, A Meeting With Psycho Mantis, the infamous fight with Psycho Mantis is altered to Mantis reading Snake’s mind trying to convince him that he wants the 2017 Ford Fusion Titanium. It’s a fun take on a beloved scene in the PlayStation classic, Metal Gear Solid.

The second commercial, A Codec Call to Remember, features Hayter as Snake and Paul Eiding, who returns as Colonel Roy Campbell.

During the commercial, Colonel informs Snake about the Ford Focus SE. This prompts Snake to say he is going to “Fulton-Extract a Ford Focus SE right now.” The Colonel then mentions that Fulton technology has not been used since 1984. This is in reference to the recently released Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, as the game is set during that time period.

These commercials came as a surprise to many fans of the series as it displayed the return of David Hayter in the role of Snake.

Hayter had been replaced by Kiefer Sutherland in the past two entries in the franchise, causing uproar from a dedicated fan-base. In a recent interview, Hayter said that he has not played the two recent entries in the series as it would be many hours of embarrassment to him.

It is nice to see Hayter back in the role that so many fans have come to know and love. To many people, he is the true voice of an iconic character.
