It’s been rumored for many months that Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck were working together on the solo Batman film. There have been tales of the duo being given complete creative control, them wanting to pack the film with villains, and both Johns and Affleck receiving lofty promotions. While DC’s CCO is currently unable to confirm all of the above, he did admit to Comicbook.com that he and Affleck were indeed working on the Dark Knight’s standalone.

He first explained what his title of Chief Creative Officer entailed:

“My job is to help other Warner Bros. divisions work with DC. I work with Warner TV and producers to get these shows up and running, in particular with The Flash, where I co-created the show, wrote a few episodes, wrote the pilot episode,” Johns said. “I work with other people, Ames Kirshen in games, the studios like Rocksteady and Netherrealm, go in there on character choices, story they’re going to do and brainstorm on that, try to keep it true to comics.”

However, Johns joked that when talking to people outside of the industry, he likes to keep his day to day job simple in description. “I just tell them I write comics,” he laughed.

Since he’s been diving even further into his role as CCO, he’ll be taking a step back from comic writing once Rebirth launches. But at least he has another trick card hidden when discussing his work with family. “I do get to say I’m working on Batman with Ben Affleck,” Johns added. “That gets the Thanksgiving table excited, especially my brother.”

So there it is, a full-fledged confirmation. Let the excitement for the Batman film continue to steamroll ahead. There’s no indication of what this film will be about or when it will be hitting theaters. Although, now that the identity of the dead Robin in Batman v Superman has been revealed, there are a few storylines open for speculation.
