John Barrowman may have left the Arrowverse, but he’s more than willing to return. Confirming his departure at the end of Arrow season 5, Barrowman said in an Instagram post, that he was very sad to be leaving. Certainly his absence will be keenly felt by fans; he has been one of Arrow’s main antagonists since season one, though his character was more complex than just an all-out villain; he often assisted Oliver Queen, and in the end, died doing so.

Speaking at Heroes and Villains FanFest in London, Barrowman joked with the crowd that if he could bring Malcolm back to the show, and he could write his own script, the first thing he’d do would be to give him his hand back. He also added that he would like to see Malcolm being more open, rather than having to hide all the time and do all of his work in secret. A fan also asked if  he would return as Ra’s Al Ghul:

“I would love to,” he told the audience. “Yeah. I would love to do more episodes. I loved playing him.”

Fans were also keen to ask about his time on Doctor Who and Torchwood, as Captain Jack Harkness. Barrowman revealed that aside from David Tennant’s Doctor, his favorite early Doctors were Tom Baker and John Pertwee, with Pertwee having been the Doctor on screen when he first discovered the show as a young child. To the delight of a young fan dressed in full Captain Jack cosplay, Barrowman also answered the question of which Doctor Who monster he would like to fight if a Torchwood movie ever happened.  “The cybermen,” he said decisively. “Because I fought Daleks (on the show), but the cybermen always scared me the most when I was a little boy.”

And would he work with David Tennant again? “Absoutely. I would love to work with David again. We always have a great time working togetther and I love it when I get to see him.”

Barrowman concluded his panel by thanking all the attendees on behalf of all the shows present at the con, paying a heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives in the Manchester terror attack:

“The casts of Arrow, Flash, Gotham, Legends, we thank you all for coming out today, because, that wicked event that happened this week, all of you showing up here, that shows those wicked people that we are not going to let that event define how we live our lives. While we’re having fun today, take a moment and think about those girls, and boys, those fathers and mothers, that are no longer here, Because you being here today is honoring them, because you’re living your life in the way that you should, and we thank you.”

Heroes and Villains FanFest runs May 27-28th at London’s Olympia.
